Our Mission
The Human Library event is hosted annually at Boston Latin School. Guest speakers from all over the city come to the Keefe Library for a full day and man a table where they act as a “book,” for students to “read” as they come during their study periods. The “books” are chosen based on the theme for the year (past themes have included “culture,” “identity,” and “innovation”). The speakers not only tell their own story as it relates to the theme, but also engage in small group discussions with BLS students about their experiences, ideas, and preconceptions based on the day’s theme. In normal years, students participate for one 40-minute period and usually get to talk with 3 different books, rotating from one table to the next. This year, we plan on hosting the event virtually. We hope our new assistant directors will make this year’s virtual Human Library just as successful as it has been in the past, if not more so!
